Henry has been thinking of Edwin. Mr. Lowenstein came through from Berkeley and his father is very ill. He and Henry have great plans for a Literary Center in Berkeley. He is still working on the Success of Markham Home with Judge Richards help. He also thanks Markham for the apropos of Christmas. He delivered the Morrison souvenirs and the autograph to Kate Kennedy who was so delighted. Mrs. B likes the "Nautilus Collection" and he cherishs his treasures highly.

Educator, poet, critic. Bland was Poet Laureate of California from 1929 until his death (1931). Educated at College of the Pacific, Stanford, and the University of California (1887-1898). Markham, Edwin, 1852-1940

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
